Where to begin? “El Hombre” has been “El Sucks” so far throughout our first month of the season. Clearly not what the Angels envisioned when they handed over the keys to the city. So what do you do with “The Machine?”
I do not own him in any leagues. Being a top 3 pick was higher than I was winning to take him (not to mention I do not believe I had a top 3 pick in my leagues this season.) Pujols is going from a better team and knowing the pitchers he was facing to the Angels. Full disclosure: I am an unapologetic Oakland A’s fan, which means I have seen my share of Angels games. The Angels are just getting old and I just don’t see them running their team appropriately- line up wise. I know everyone is all jacked on the offense as I just dont see it. Hunter, Wells, and Abreau (who they finally cut) should probably be on their way out of the league by now, not to mention should probably be unowned in the cast majority of leagues unless it’s deep AL only. To me, the Angels lineup should look like this: 1. Trout (LF) 2. Kendrick (2B) 3. Pujols (1B) 4. Morales (DH) 5. Trumbo (3B) 6. Hunter (CF) 7. Ianetta (C) 8. Bourjos (RF) 9. Aybar (SS)
I have a feeling once they fix their lineup, the hitting will become contagious and you should see some of these guys start to put up the numbers they were projected- including Pujols. Last year he was a top 15 player- not top 5! Expect this guy to be a top 20 overall player. If you can get that value for him, then go for it. Otherwise, take nothing less and ride the wave.
A manager in my AL only league has put Pujols on the trade block. I’ll save you the schematics on my team, but it’s just a standard 5x5 H2H. I offered Fielder, Cody Ross, and Lind for Pujols, Nelson Cruz, and Kendrys Morales. I thought it was solid, but I was countered Fielder for Pujols straight up. I’m gonna pass on this and counter again. To me, Prince is a monster and although facing the same changes as Pujols, he’s not showing any signs of struggling and neither is his team. Prince is top 15 and the trade is fair, I just think at the end of the season Prince will be the better player.
All-in-all, if you can get Pujols on the “cheap” go for it! I’d predict he finishes with a .285+ Avg, 32 HRs, 100 RBI, 90 Runs.
